Serves: 4 – 6


  • 1 pound large cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails removed
  • 1 avocado – peeled, pitted, and cubed
  • lettuce torn into small pieces (sprinkle with lime to prevent it turning brown)
  • 1 cucumber peeled and chopped into small cubes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro/parsley
  • 1 bottle cocktail sauce or home made sauce

For Home Made sauce

  • 5 drops Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 Tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 4 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 4 tsp sour cream
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp Cognac
  • 2 tsp whisky
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste


  • In a bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the sauce. Taste the sauce and adjust as necessary
  • Boil some water in a pan and add the shrimp for a few minutes till they are cooked and pink. This should be 2-3 minutes
  • In a cocktail glass, place lettuce at the bottom. Layer it with cucumber and avocado and finally the shrimp. Top with the cocktail sauce and serve with a wedge of lime and chopped cilantro or parsley.
  • Chill for at least 1 hour. Can be served with warm toast
