  • 1 cup Whole moong dal
  • 1 big onion, chopped
  • 1 medium-sized Tomato
  • 1 Green chili
  • ½ tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • ½ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • ¼ tsp Garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • coriander leaves


  • Wash the dal well.
  • Add water and little salt.
  • Cook it well, then drain the water and keep ready (don’t discard the water we can use it in gravy, I usually drink it).
  • Heat oil in a pan, add onion and green chili
  • Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, then add in ginger garlic paste.
  • Sauté for a few minutes until the raw smell goes.
  • Then add chopped tomatoes.
  • Cook till it becomes mushy than add in all dry powder, little water and then the cooked dal.
  • Cook for some times for everything to blend well.
  • Lastly add lemon juice and remove from heat. Serve with chopped coriander.
