Serves: 4 – 6

Ingredients

  • 1 slice bread
  • 1 ½ cup milk, divided
  • 500 gms minced mutton or beef
  • 1 Tbsp curry powder
  • 1 ½ tsp turmeric, divided
  • I clove garlic, minced
  • 1 cm ginger, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 Tbsp Butter for frying
  • 2 eggs
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Grated rind of ½ lemon
  • ¼ cup golden sultanas
  • ¼ cup almond slivers
  • 2 dried apricots, chopped
  • ½ green apple, peeled and grated
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 6 lemon or kafir line leaves
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Soak the bread in half the milk for a few minutes till absorbed. Squeeze out and keep milk aside
  • Mix the crushed bread, minced meat, curry powder and 1 tsp of turmeric powder
  • Make a paste with garlic, ginger and a little salt. In large skillet, melt about 1 Tbsp butter, fry the onions, garlic and ginger paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt and pepper till golden
  • In another large pan, melt 1 Tbsp of butter and cook the minced meat. The meat needs to be cooked and not browned. Break up the meat as you cook
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius / 350 degrees Fahrenheit
